More rumblings from our sources at Apple that some new iteration of Apple displays will include HDMI support. This my jive with the reduction in price on the cinema display recently. It is brillant! Here is why.
People have been ranting over the net…HDMI is evil…HDMI is content protection. Sure, maybe…whatever, that isn’t the point.
HDMI is great for Apple for one reason, maybe two. The no brainer is bandwidth. Dual link DVI can carry (Single-link) 3.7 Gbit/s, (Dual-link) 7.4 Gbit/s.1 HDMI (1.3) can carry approximately 10.2 Gbps at 340 Mpixels/sec.2
Rumor has it that Cinema New displays with iSight and microphone built in needs audio out of the display and into the computer and what better way to do that than HDMI. No evil necessary.
Apple has long loved simplicity in setup, and freedom from cables. Let’s hope this is another step in that direction. Plus, it would be a great connector for AppleTV, right?
